Endodontics
Procedure to treat infections or diseases of the dental pulp

What is endodontics?

Endodontics also known as root canal treatment or popularly known as “killing the nerve” is a procedure used to treat infection or inflammation of the dental pulp. The dental pulp is what keeps the tooth vital or “alive” since it has the neurovascular package that gives life to the tooth.

Advanced cavities, trauma, fractures, severe dental wear or endo-periodontal problems can alter the state of the healthy dental pulp and cause spontaneous pain, pain when cold or hot, pain when chewing, or the appearance of an abscess or phlegmon. …In these cases, endodontic treatment is needed. This will eliminate pain, prolong the life of the tooth and prevent its extraction.

With endodontic treatment we disinfect the tooth from the inside and fill it with a biocompatible material, returning its chewing function to the tooth. Once the treatment is completed, the piece will be reconstructed or a ceramic reinforcement will be placed, as well as a crown or inlay, as indicated by the specialist which is the most recommended option in your case.

Is there an alternative to endodontics?

Endodontics allows us to maintain the natural shape of the tooth and is the most conservative treatment if you want to keep your tooth, since not wanting to undergo said treatment the only alternative would be extraction. This is why most professionals choose to perform a root canal in order to maintain your original tooth.
